Lord Fin Tube-Heat Exchanger Tube SA 268-TP410

SA-268 TP410 is a specification for heat exchanger tubes made from stainless steel alloy TP410. SA-268 is the standard specification issued by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) for seamless and welded ferritic and martensitic stainless steel tubing for general corrosion-resisting and high-temperature service.

TP410 refers to the specific stainless steel alloy grade within the TP400 series. TP410 is a martensitic stainless steel that contains a significant amount of chromium, typically around 11.5% to 13.5%, and a low carbon content of maximum 0.15%. It also contains small amounts of other elements such as nickel, manganese, silicon, sulfur, phosphorus, and carbon.

SA-268 TP410 tubes are known for their excellent corrosion resistance, particularly in mildly corrosive environments. They offer good strength, hardness, and wear resistance, making them suitable for high-temperature applications. TP410 tubes are commonly used in heat exchangers, boilers, condensers, and other industrial applications where resistance to corrosion, high temperatures, and mechanical stresses is required.

Its important to note that SA-268 TP410 is just one of many specifications available for stainless steel heat exchanger tubes, and the choice of material depends on the specific requirements of the application, operating conditions, and compatibility with the fluids being processed. Consulting the appropriate industry standards, engineering guidelines, and considering the advice of materials and heat exchanger experts is crucial to ensure the suitability and safety of the chosen material.

SA-268 TP410 tubes Composition:

SA-268 TP410 tubes are primarily composed of the following elements:

- Chromium (Cr): 11.5% to 13.5%

- Carbon (C): Maximum 0.15%

- Nickel (Ni): Maximum 0.75%

- Manganese (Mn): Maximum 1.0%

- Silicon (Si): Maximum 1.0%

- Phosphorus (P): Maximum 0.04%

- Sulfur (S): Maximum 0.03%

SA-268 TP410 tubes Mechanical Properties:

The mechanical properties of SA-268 TP410 tubes are typically as follows:

- Tensile Strength: 485 MPa (70,300 psi) minimum

- Yield Strength: 275 MPa (40,000 psi) minimum

- Elongation: 20% minimum

- Hardness: Rockwell B hardness of 95 maximum

SA-268 TP410 tubes Corrosion Resistance:

SA-268 TP410 exhibits good corrosion resistance in mildly corrosive environments, including atmospheric conditions and many organic and inorganic chemicals. However, it may not be suitable for highly corrosive environments containing strong acids or chlorides. In such cases, a more corrosion-resistant stainless steel grade, such as TP316 or TP304, may be preferred.

SA-268 TP410 tubes Applications:

SA-268 TP410 tubes are commonly used in various heat exchanger applications, such as:

- Shell and tube heat exchangers

- Condensers

- Boilers

- Process heaters

- Refinery equipment

- Petrochemical plants

- Power generation facilities

These tubes are suitable for applications where resistance to corrosion, high temperatures, and mechanical stresses is required. TP410 offers good strength, hardness, and wear resistance, making it suitable for demanding environments.

SA-268 TP410 tubes Fabrication and Weldability:

SA-268 TP410 tubes can be fabricated using standard methods, including hot and cold working processes. They can be readily welded using common welding techniques such as TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) or MIG (Metal Inert Gas) welding. However, post-weld heat treatment is typically recommended to restore the materials mechanical properties and reduce the risk of sensitization and intergranular corrosion.

Its important to consult the relevant industry standards and guidelines, as well as engage with experienced materials and heat exchanger professionals, to ensure proper selection, fabrication, and installation of SA-268 TP410 heat exchanger tubes for specific applications.
