What is swage tube?

A swage tube, also known as a swaged tube, refers to a type of tubing that has been manipulated or formed using a swaging process. Swaging involves using radial pressure to reshape the diameter of the tube, typically reducing it to a desired size or shape.

How to fabricate swage tubes?

1. Material Selection:

Choose a suitable material based on the specific requirements of the application. Common materials used for swage tubes include:

   - Stainless Steel: Known for its corrosion resistance, strength, and durability, stainless steel is often used in applications requiring high performance and longevity, such as in the aerospace and automotive industries.

   - Copper: Copper tubing is widely used in plumbing, HVAC systems, and refrigeration due to its excellent conductivity and malleability.

   - Aluminum: Aluminum tubes are lightweight, corrosion-resistant, and commonly used in applications such as automotive components, aerospace structures, and bicycle frames.

   - Carbon Steel: Carbon steel tubing offers strength and affordability, making it suitable for a wide range of industrial applications, including construction, machinery, and transportation.

2. Swaging Process:

The fabrication process involves using a swaging machine or tool to apply radial pressure to the tube, causing it to deform and reduce its diameter. The specific steps may vary depending on the equipment and technique used, but generally involve:

   - Inserting the tube into the swaging machine or tool.

   - Applying pressure to the tubes outer surface using dies or rollers.

   - Gradually reducing the diameter of the tube to the desired size or shape.

   - Checking the dimensions and quality of the swaged tube to ensure it meets specifications.

3. Finishing and Inspection:

After swaging, the tube may undergo additional processes such as trimming, deburring, or surface treatment to achieve the desired finish and dimensional accuracy. Inspect the swaged tube for any defects or imperfections to ensure it meets quality standards.

Applications of swage tubes

- Hydraulic Systems: Swage tubes are commonly used in hydraulic systems for conveying fluids under high pressure, such as in hydraulic cylinders, pumps, and valves.

- Instrumentation: Swage tubes find applications in instrumentation and control systems for measuring and monitoring various parameters, including temperature, pressure, and flow.

- Structural Components: Swage tubes are utilized in the construction of structural components, such as support beams, trusses, and frames, in industries ranging from aerospace to architecture.

- Piping Systems: Swage tubes are employed in piping systems for transporting fluids or gases in industries such as oil and gas, chemical processing, and water treatment.
