How to choose the height of the fin tube?

Whether the fin height the higher the better?

The answer absolutely NO. The fin height need consider the tube and fin material grade, fin pitch, fin height, fin, tube size...

How to choose the fin height of the fin tube?

1. When the heat transfer area of the fin is doubled, the heat exchange coefficient will not be doubled. Usually only increase 0.9-0.7. Furthermore the higher the fin, the greater the discount value, even less than 0.5mm. This shows that the higher the fin, the lower the fin efficiency.

2. When the fins are too high, the ash easy to accumulates and it is difficult to clear the ash on the fin.

3. Fins are too high, making the fining fabricate difficult, the processing cost very high.

Fin Tube Height

For example:

When the high-frequency welded fin tube commonly used in engineering is 15mm, the fin efficiency is about 0.8. When the fin height is 20mm, the fin efficiency decreases to about 0.7mm.

This shows that it is appropriate to choose a fin height of 15mm. If you choose a fin height of more than 20mm, you should be particularly careful. Because its fin efficiency is too low, it is generally not used. For aluminum fins used in air coolers, since the thermal conductivity of aluminum is much higher than that of carbon steel, its fin efficiency is higher, and it is acceptable to increase the fin height to 22-25mm.

Which parameters of finned tube have influence on heat dissipation?

1. Contact thermal resistance. Its influence is large. If the contact thermal resistance is not good, the influence on heat dissipation will reach 20%.

2. Fin height. If the fin height is increased, the heat dissipation area will be increased, thus increasing the heat dissipation. However, this should not be increased blindly, and the dimension rationality should also be considered.

3. Fin spacing. If the fin spacing becomes smaller, the heat dissipation will increase, but it is not the smaller the better. If the spacing is too small, it will bring bad effects. Two pipes are 3-4mm, four pipes are 4-5mm, and six pipes are 5-6mm.

4. Finned tube diameter. If the diameter of the fin tube increases, the heat dissipation will increase, but it also has some disadvantages. If the fin height is relatively small and the fin pitch is relatively small, the pipe diameter should also take into account the rationality.

5. Number of fins. Increasing the number of fins can also increase the heat dissipation, but it will increase the cost. Therefore, it is not very economical from an economic perspective.
