The chemical industry widely utilizes reactors, also known as reaction tanks. They are closed containers that can sustain pressure and carry out multiphase reactions like gas-liquid, liquid-liquid, gas-liquid-solid, and so on. The chemical reaction in the reactor is frequently followed by heat release or cooling. To provide the greatest reaction effect, the reactor will be outfitted with appropriate heating and cooling equipment. The most common types of reactors are stainless steel reactors with externally spiral heating limpet coils.
The jacket is a steel framework of various shapes that is welded or flanged to the exterior of the tank body, producing a confined area with the tanks outer surface. Heat-carrying fluid is introduced into this area to heat or cool the material and keep its temperature within a set range.
What are the limpet coils?
Limpet coils, also referred to as half-pipe jackets, are components used for heat exchange reactions on heating reactors.
Limpet coils are mainly semicircular pipes that are spirally welded to the reactor tank wall. Half pipes can be installed on the reactors bottom head and cylinder. The round half pipe is made by pressing the plate on the cylinder, whereas the head half pipe is formed by cutting the pipe.

The semicircular design of limpet coils serves the following function:
✔ Reduce the wall thickness of the reactor body, improving the reactors strength and rigidity against external pressure.
✔ Improve heat transfer efficiency by increasing the heat transfer coefficient and lowering thermal resistance.
✔ Increase the medium flow rate in the coil, and improve the structure of the jackets inner surface.
✔ Reduce energy use.
✔ Reduce the total diameter of the reactor body to minimize space and material costs.
✔ The spiral design ensures uniform heating and prevents local overheating.
