Tubesheet Material

A tubesheet is a component used in heat exchangers that provides support for the tubes and allows for the transfer of heat between the tubes and the shell-side fluid. The material used for tubesheets depends on several factors, including the type of heat exchanger, the operating conditions, and the fluid being used.

Common materials used for tubesheets include:

Carbon steel: This is a common material used for tubesheets in low-pressure and low-temperature applications. For example, common material grades for carbon steel tubesheets include ASTM A283 Grade C and ASTM A516 Grade 70.

Stainless steel: Stainless steel tubesheets are used in applications that require corrosion resistance, such as in the food and pharmaceutical industries. For example, common material grades for carbon steel tubesheets include ASTM A283 Grade C and ASTM A516 Grade 70.

Titanium: Titanium tubesheets are used in applications where high strength, corrosion resistance, and low weight are required, such as in the marine and aerospace industries. Titanium tubesheets may be made from grades such as Ti-6Al-4V or Ti-3Al-2.5V,

Copper and copper alloys: Copper and copper alloy tubesheets are used in heat exchangers that handle high temperatures and pressures, such as in power plants. While copper tubesheets may be made from grades such as C44300 or C70600.

The material used for tubesheets must be compatible with the materials used for the tubes and the shell, as well as the fluids being used. The tubesheet material must also be able to withstand the operating conditions, such as temperature and pressure, without deforming or failing.
